“Hi, I’m Thy, an 11th grader from Hanoi, Vietnam. I’m currently studying an A-level dual-degree diploma, which allows me to have an early exposure to Economics – a field that sparks my interest. Recently, I came across Professor Robert J. Shiller’s lectures on narrative economics, which directly relate to today’s world – an era full of viral stories. I did further independent research and was inspired by Shiller’s book on the same topic, and found out how behaviours and narratives shape crucial economic decisions. Although this may seem obvious to some people, it is no longer optional to understand narrative economics, given the current A.I bubble. Therefore, in this article, I analysed how decisions fueled by stories led to a crucial economic event – the Financial Crisis in 2008.
I found IYJ an ideal place for youngsters to gain exposure to academic writing, and at the same time, becoming a Newspaper Writer at IYJ provides various opportunities for self improvements,” said Thy.
