Elza Elif Mehdiyev

Elza Elif Mehdiyev is a TEDx Speaker, academic writer, and young changemaker with a passion for international law, world politics, and environmentalism. Originally from Istanbul, Turkey, she is currently a grade 12 student in Ontario, Canada. She hopes to study law in university.
Key Achievements:
– Co-op student at Brock University, Department of Political Science: Attended undergraduate lectures, studied critical discourse analysis, and collected data on Canada’s voting patterns in the United Nations General Assembly. Wrote a 6000 word research paper on Azerbaijani foreign policy (forthcoming in the International Journal for Humanities and Education)
– Initiated and ran the first-ever ESL summer course in Istiklal Middle School (my alma mater)
– TEDx Speaker (twice) with 1.4k+ views on YouTube
– Published academic research paper on geopolitics “The Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea: Losers and Winners” on the International Journal of Volga – Ural and Turkestan Studies (550+ downloads)
– Invited as a guest speaker to the Global Youth SDGs Summit: spoke about the criminalization of ecocide
